IMRT/IGRT

IMRT AND IGRT

When considering radiation therapy, both Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) are often used to describe the latest technology in treating prostate cancer.

As our patient, you can be assured that our specialists at the Prostate Cancer Center employ both modalities to “zero in” and effectively treat your diseased tissue. IGRT has more to do with the patient’s precise positioning on the treatment table to ensure accuracy of the radiation beam. IMRT has more to do with modulating the dosage and shaping of the radiation beam to the precise dimensions of the prostate and its affected areas.

Essentially, both IMRT and IGRT are used to pinpoint the origin of the cancer while protecting the surrounding healthy tissue. The good news is that we are skilled and very experienced at combining both technologies to ensure the best results for our patients.
